Shape and proportions

The bounding dimensions provided in the product data will help us to determine the overall size and shape of the product, but unless we have a detailed dimension specification for each and every element, we always rely on perspective image matching to create the correct proportion, shape, and size of the product elements.

When we talk about elements, we refer to each individual element that the product consists of, such as arms, cushions, platform, backrest, legs, etc. Unless there are detailed specifications with dimensions for each element, we match the 3D model with the image reference to make sure we have the proportions and the shape right.

Starting from the bounding box perspective match,  from the very beginning, we have the overall perspective match, which serves as a guideline during the whole 3D modeling process to make sure we don’t deviate from the image references. We follow the image references closely while modeling and constantly return to the perspective image match to make sure the elements we build are proportional to each other and that the shape is correct in regards to the reference.

Camera Perspective Influence

The perspective image matching does not mean that the final rendering image will have this same perspective and match with the reference image. This is due to the fact that the reference photograph was taken with a different camera, a different lens, and from a different angle compared to the camera, lens, and angle chosen for the Cylindo 360 Viewer.

  • The camera perspective for the image matching is created by tweaking the angle, focal depth, lens, rotation, etc., to recreate the identical camera perspective from the image reference.  This camera perspective is custom and unique for each product.

  • The camera perspective in the final 360 Viewer is a standardized camera that has been chosen in the Setup Selection process. It uses standardized presets throughout the whole scope of products, and it does not change the angle, height, and focal depth for each separate product.mceclip4.png

In the images below, you can see the difference between a perspective match camera, where the model perfectly matches with the image reference, and how that same model will look in the final rendering in the 360 Viewer.

Camera Angle Influence

The perspective image matching does not mean that the final rendering image will have this same camera angle and match with the reference image.

  • The camera angle for the perspective match image is created by tweaking the angle and the rotation of the camera to recreate the identical camera angle from the image reference. This camera angle is custom and unique for each product.

In the image below, you can see that the 3D model is perfectly matched with the image references.

But in order for the final rendering to match with the image reference, we will need to match the angle of the camera.

However, using the predetermined camera from the setup selection, it will probably not match to the image reference.

The perspective image matching is done only for the archetype products Since the variation products are then based on that same archetype, there is no need to check for shape and proportions.

The exception is if we have determined that the dimensions are not correct and the client has chosen the image references as a single source of truth. In that case, we might request additional perspective image matching for the variation products as well.

The perspective image matching serves as a proof that the shape, proportion, and size of the product have been accounted for in the modeling process and that they are correct based on the image references provided. Any feedback on these aspects that can clearly be seen as being correct on the prospective image match will be considered as a request outside of the standard.

Feedback

By providing the correct perspective image matching, Cylindo guarantees that the shape of the overall product, as well as the separate elements of the product, have the correct shape and proportions based on the image references provided.

Based on this, every comment in regards to shape and proportions outside of the provided image matching will be considered as a request outside of the standards and probably will be addressed in a later stage as an update. Also, in this case, we will need precise input on how much the shape or the proportions need to be changed.

Within this standard, Cylindo will also not accept any comments on the final product renderings matched with the reference images. The camera presets are predetermined for the entire scope and cannot be changed per product. If it needs to be changed, this will also be considered as a change request and probably will be addressed at a later stage as an update.
