Archetypes and Variations
In model production, we adhere to what we call the Archetype approach: we produce one product from the range first (the archetype), and only when it’s approved do we begin working on the variations. This is because we can reuse certain elements from the archetype, such as legs, armrests, cushions, and other features that are shared across the range. Since these elements have already been approved for the archetype, they don’t need to be reviewed for the variations.
The Review Funnel
When it comes to reviews, the most important rule to keep in mind to ensure efficiency is to provide comprehensive feedback during the first review round. In the second review round, you can follow up on the initial feedback, but no new issues should be reported at this stage. This is essential because every time you submit feedback, approximately one week is added to the timeline, and our delivery estimates are based on a set number of review iterations.
Please note that our timelines expect feedback within two working days unless otherwise agreed. If you are unable to review within this timeframe, please inform us as soon as possible so we can reallocate resources and adjust estimated delivery date accordingly.
Review Format
During the model review stage, the model is rendered in 8 frames and a limited selection of materials. This approach provides sufficient information for a thorough review while managing rendering costs efficiently. Once approved, the model will be rendered in all material options and 32 frames, a process we refer to as Mass Production.
Align with Product Data
Ensure your comments align with the original product data supplied to Cylindo. We recommend opening "data collection" in a new tab or window for a side-by-side review. This is crucial, as we model based on the provided references and any feedback that does not match these references might affect the project scope and timeline.
Step-by-Step Feedback Process
Step 1: When you begin a review, be sure to rotate the model to see it from every angle. If you’re unsure whether a detail matters, ask yourself: Will this affect the customer’s buying decision? If it will, then it’s worth addressing. When you are ready to provide feedback, click the “Issue” button in the top right corner of the product viewer.
Step 2: Use the “Issue Type” dropdown on the right side to guide your review and provide concrete, actionable feedback. You can mark the issue on the model with the pen tool or attach a relevant image from data collection for additional information. Use the "Issue description" box to describe the issue in your own words. Once your feedback is complete, click “Add issue”. Please add one “issue” per comment; think of this as a checklist that we need to be able to tick off one by one.
Step 3: Review all issues you have reported under the product viewer. All new issues will be collected in the "unresolved" tab. This step is essential to avoid conflicting feedback and ensure all comments are included.
Step 4: Click the “Submit Feedback” button once you have reported all issues. If there are no issues, click the “Approve Model” button. Note that we will not be notified about your comments or approvals if you skip this step!
